Nha Trang, Perspective

Vietnam has a population of 82 million; presently 30 heart surgeons perform approximately 6’000 operations/year. (In comparison, Germany: population of 84 million; between 60’000 and 90’000 operations/year since the late 70ies)

Annually, in Vietnam 10’000 children are born with a heart disease and another 3’000 children are diagnosed at a later stage. The enormous difficulties to cover this demand are documented in a letter from Ho-Chi-Minh-City.
